Dear Mr Hubicka,
Thank you for sharing with us your open letter to the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda. I am replying to you on behalf of the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker.
Media freedom and pluralism are fundamental values in the EU as mentioned in Article 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The Commission seeks to ensure respect for those values within its powers under the EU Treaties. The Commission is currently engaged in a structured and cooperative exchange with the Polish authorities in order to collect all relevant information. On this basis, it will assess the situation with regard to the rule of law.
